SERIES 1
FREEDOM FROM STRUGGLE
Black Wall Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Freedom From Struggle, is a portrait series taken during the Centennial of Black Wall Street. 100 years since the Tulsa Race Massacre on Black Wall Street (May 31 1921 - June 1 1921) . In commemoration this year 2021 we experienced the Black Wall Street Legacy Festival in collaboration with World Culture Music and Juneteenth right in the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
For me, it was difficult to celebrate during this time. The thought of what happened to once the wealthiest black community in the United States, resurfaced a lot pain and anger. But in retrospective, the thoughts of many black entrepreneurs, business owners, and more paved the way to have thriving black communities in Oklahoma and left behind not only a legacy but the blueprint to an ecosystem we desire here today. Growing up in Tulsa, OK a lot of people moved away, because for minorities there were not many opportunities to develop communities with entrepreneurship. Though today barriers are currently being broken for the better of our people who are from here. To add to this difficulty, there is just a lot chaos happening around the world and inside communities that fucks my head up. We are all still experiencing and witnessing The Black Matrix!
Therefore these photographs taken through my lens is a perspective of raw moments freeing self of the struggle, hence the title, Freedom From Struggle [the current meaning of life, in my opinion].
