Miss irie: Do you believe black culture and hip hop influenced the fashion we have today?
Aubrey: Black culture and Hip-Hop absolutely have influenced today’s fashion. Globally, entertainers in black culture are trendsetters. When rappers started purchasing Birkin’s for their women the price went up. Full lips became a trend, as African American women are now praised for and then Kylie Jenner got lip injections, which made her fans do a challenge where they stuck their lips into a bottle to create the same plump lips that we were born with. Most, if not all major companies incorporate hip-hop music to sell to the masses, from McDonalds, insurance companies and tissue paper. Without black culture the world is bland and would be lacking substance.

Miss irie: How has Hip hop or our black culture influenced your style?
Aubrey: Hip Hop and black culture have influenced my style in so many ways since I was able to form an opinion as a child. Watching music videos from my favorite artists as well as television shows that displayed us as black people in a positive light all exuded elements of hip-hop culture, i.e., Bell Biv Devoe, Tupac, Living Single, A Different World and so many others. The way I wear my hair to the 90s style of accessories I choose to rock such as my gold-plated necklace with my initial and my bamboo earrings. My oversized sweatshirts that I tend to prep up with my collar shirt underneath reminds me of some of the main characters in the 90s sitcom A Different World.

Miss irie: How do you feel when you get your hair/nails done?
Aubrey: When I get my hair and nails done, I feel empowered. Like I can do anything while looking fabulous.

Miss irie: What is the most exotic or wild hair style you’ve ever done?
Aubrey: Thus far the wildest hair style I have worn was not so much a style but a color. I recently went Sunrise Orange, the brightest orange I have ever seen, and I have loved every moment of it.

Miss irie: How would you describe your style?
Aubrey: My style is very laid back and chill most days, sweatsuits, tennis shoes, or jeans and a t-shirt. However, I can turn up the sexy when necessary, cat suits, heels, tight dress, or something revealing.
Miss irie: What are some of your favorite pieces to wear, Like what is a must have item in your wardrobe?
Aubrey: Must have items in my wardrobe are jogging suits, cute, comfortable, and matching sets. Cute and comfy tennis shoes and tall boots are a must in the shoe department. A little black dress aka an all-purpose dress and a pair of hoops will always be found in my stash.

Miss irie: Who would you say is a hip hop role model in your life?
Aubrey: Honestly, I cannot say who is a hip-hop role model in my life. I can say that I fell in love with hip-hop when I heard Supersonic by JJ Fad and Life is… by Too Short. By the way, I still know every word to those songs, and I should not have known them at such a young age.
